You've lived in France for a few years. At dinner, you follow the conversation easily: you talk about your week, you argue, you joke.
Then someone says: « Il s'appelle Juste Leblanc. » The whole table bursts out laughing. You laugh too, half a second after everyone else.
You look the line up. It's from a 1998 film that most French people have seen several times.
And it clicks: it's not your French that's missing. It's everything around it. The cult films, the songs, the innuendo nobody thinks to explain, because to them it's obvious.

Yes, the Club is open all year round. As soon as you sign up, you get the replays of past lives, the film sheets and the community. You catch up at your own pace and join the next lives in real time.
The Club is designed for intermediate and advanced learners (B1 and above). Not sure? Take the free level test: it shows you where you stand in grammar, listening, everyday vocabulary and pronunciation.
They're usually on france.tv, arte.tv, TF1+ or YouTube. This winter, Camarades is on arte.tv: check that it's available in your country. If you're outside France, you'll probably need a VPN.
Allow about 4 hours: the film or episode, an hour on the sheets and the live. But nothing is compulsory: you choose your priorities.
Every live is recorded, with notes on the key points. You join us again when you're back, no pressure.
From 21 December to 3 January, there are no lives. Instead, we hold a Christmas romcom battle: you write your own romantic comedy with a few prompts, and we meet twice a week at the café to share our stories.
